What are Counselling and Psychotherapy?

There is no straightforward answer to this, but we hope this page helps.

To some, counselling happens when two people work together to resolve an overt problem whilst psychotherapy is about making changes to deeply held patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviours which are proving disruptive in the here-and-now.

To others, either word can apply to both definitions.

John and Jane Drouot take the latter view. People have come to see us to resolve a specific difficulty: to learn to say goodbye to an aging relative; to rebuild or to end a relationship; to manage their anxiety, their anger or other difficult feelings. They have also come to us because they are disturbed at an aspect of themselves that, perhaps at one time had seemed positive, but which now has become a burden. Finally, sometimes people have come to see us because they are heartsick and lost and need to reconnect with themselves

In all cases, we receive them with interest, concern and with the intent to provide appropriate help.
