Transactional Analysis
Transactional Analysis which is also known as TA, is a well established way of looking at how people interact with each other and why they do it the way they do.
It helps us make sense of what happens between us and other people. And more importantly it helps us find ways of getting better outcomes.
TA does this through :
- simple, clear, easy to understand models of the human personality
- effective techniques to help us change how we think, feel and behave towards others
- powerful approaches to changing how we think and feel about ourselves, leading to improvements in how we treat ourselves.
- the use of straightforward, non-technical language
Transactional Analysis, came about in the middle of the twentieth century when it became clear that counselling and psychotherapy would be more helpful if people had way of understanding the human psyche which made sense to them as well as to therapists.
It’s originator Dr Eric Berne, a Canadian psychiatrist, wrote a number of books which are still widely read: “Games People Play” and “What Do You Say After You’ve Said Hello”, are good examples.
TA is used in counselling and psychotherapy, in all sorts of self-help situations, in business situations and in education.
